Berhampur, Sept 28 (LocalWire): In an inspiring trend, several girls have taken admission in different mechanical trades in the government run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) here this year.
Admissions to the ITI concluded three days ago after the final spot selection process.
“It is an encouraging trend indeed, that girls are choosing mechanical subjects like automobiles, turner, fitter, welder, mechanics (vehicles), automobile sector, mechatronics, foundry man etc.,” said ITI principal Rajat Kumar Panigrahy.
As many as 407 girls out of 2200 students in 22 different subjects have taken admission this year in the institute amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of girls taking admission this year was higher as compared to last year, as around 300 girls out of 1960 total students had taken admission last year.
While a majority of girls preferred to join the electrician course (119), this was followed by fitter (79), computer operator (59), sewing trade (40), electronic mechanic (23), instrument mechanics (5), mechatronics (5), automobile (4), plumber (5) etc., sources said.
More job opportunities in different private companies might be one of the reasons that girls are preferring to take admission in various mechanical subjects, attributed Panigrahy.
