Bhubaneswar,April 6 (LocalWire) : Gadadhar Swain who was found dead in the mess of a marble shop at Pahala, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on March 28 has committed suicide, police claimed today.
The body of the 46 year old working as a security guard was found with his throat slit while the door was locked from inside.
Police said that the postmortem of the victim revealed that the injuries which were found on the body were self-inflicted. Police have found a kitchen knife from the spot.
“Swain was warned by the shop owner for theft of marbles. One Dibakar Bhuyan who was a relative of the owner was also involved in the theft with Swain.
However Bhuyan later washed off his hands which prompted Swain to implicate him,” said a police official.
Police said that they had also found a suicide letter from the possession of the victim. “Circumstantial evidence showed that Swain first tried to commit suicide by hanging but he failed in it. So he stabbed himself with the help of the knife and later slit his throat.
The suicide letter was examined by experts and the handwriting belonged to the deceased,” said deputy commissioner of police, Anup Kumar Sahoo.
Though police said that initially they had registered a case of murder later the case was turned in to a case of abetment of suicide. Police have also arrested Bhuyan for abetting the suicide.
Police claimed that they have gathered enough evidence to substantiate their claim. “As the door was locked from inside and Swain was alone present in the room, we ruled out involvement of any outsider.
The postmortem report, opinion of the doctor, opinion of handwriting expert and other circumstantial evidence will be presented before the court to strengthen our investigation,” said a police official.
