Bhubaneswar, August 23 (LocalWire): National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 14.40 crore financial grants for implementation of rooftop rain water harvesting and water conservation project in the current financial year, said senior officials of the state government.
The Nabard-funded project targets to install rooftop rain water harvesting structures in 85 government buildings and 6940 private buildings.
The project is being implemented across the state to sensitise urban people to adopt roof top rain water harvesting and ground water recharge practice to meet their domestic water needs.
Nabard proposed to spend Rs 100 crore under the scheme during a course of five years, the officials said.
The scheme is being implemented on a pilot basis in the state’s five urban centres – Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Titilagarh, Jharsuguda and Bolangir.
Three-storied private buildings with roof area of less than 200 square metres are being covered under rooftop rainwater harvesting project. Rooftop rainwater harvesting structures have already been installed in 226 government buildings and 4087 private buildings, the officials added.
