Bhubaneswar, October 23 (LocalWire): The Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) has received around a dozen of new guests from the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust (MCBT) in Chennai.
The NZP received three female Nile crocodiles besides a pair of four anacondas as part of an exchange programme on Tuesday, park officials said.
The animals will be kept off from the display area at the Reptile Park for quite some period before opening them for public display.
With the arrival of these new guests, the total species of Nandankanan have gone up to 158. “The zoo is ready with separate enclosures to house the new guests,” NZP officials stated.
The park authorities have taken precautionary measures for the new arrivals to acclimatize them in the alien zoo environment.
A team of doctors has also been deployed to check the health of the new animals.
The Nandankanan zoo nestled along with the lush green forest cover, swirling water bodies adjacent to Chandaka-Dampara Wildlife Sanctuary, is famous as the country’s most scenic zoo amid the lap of nature.
It’s spread across 437 hectares on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city.
In terms of housing varied nature, animals and birds, the Zoo stands next only to Mysore in Karnataka.
