Bhubaneswar, July 9 (LocalWire):Nandankanan Zoological Park is providing umbrellas to visitors for a nominal charge, to ensure that the monsoon is not an impediment for tourists.
The only zoological park in India to become an institutional member of WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquarium), Nandankanan is a naturalistic representation of nature’s flora and fauna in a unique way.
‘Around ten thousand people visit Nandankanan daily but due to continuous rain for the past few days, the number has reduced by at least 50%,’ informed ACF (Visitor Management) Amulya Kumar Parida.
‘Our Guides’ Association is now providing umbrellas to visitors on rent after collecting around Rs 5 to Rs10 from them,’ he added.
The umbrellas are provided near the ticket counter of the zoo’s entrance complex.
Parida said the downpour has not affected the animals as they have their own sheds.
They move inside whenever there is a heavy downpour.
The ACF confirmed that the animals are being taken proper care of and injected preventives and proper vaccinations by the medical department of the zoo.
