Bhubaneswar, June 1 (LocalWire): After the deaths of a langur and India’s lone orangutan Binny at the Nandankanan Zoological Park during the last few days, the authorities at this 437-hectare zoo and botanical garden in Bhubaneswar have good news to share.
The wildlife park was overwhelmed with joy after the birth of a baby Nilgiri langur in enclosure 55 on Saturday morning.
The baby langur was born just a day after its ailing father died at the zoo.
Nandankanan had brought a Nilgiri langur couple, parents of the baby langur, as part of the exchange programme from Chennai based Arignar Anna Zoological Park in 2017.
The male Nilgiri langur had died at the zoo on Friday following a brief illness.
He was suffering from diarrhea and fever for the last couple of days after cyclone FANI that had badly damaged part of the zoo.
According to the Nandankaran authorities, both the baby and mother langur are in good health. The zoo now has two Nilgiri langurs.
