Kendrapara, Sept 29 (LocalWire): National Bravery award-winning 16-year-old girl has gone missing from her seaside village Nipania in Kendrapara district since September 28.
Family members have alleged that she has been abducted by a youth, who wants to marry her.
In January this year, the victim and her sister Purnima Giri of the village had received the National Bravery Award-2019 in New Delhi.
Both the brave-heart girls also received Biju Patnaik Bravery Award from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on 29th August on the occasion of National Sports Day in Bhubaneswar.
The victim is studying in class X in a school near the village.
The victim has not been traced so far. The girl’s father had filed a complaint on Monday, following which an FIR was registered against the accused.
The complainant alleged that his daughter reportedly ventured out of her home on September 28.
When she did not return home, her family members started looking for her. They even contacted their relatives thinking that she might have gone back to their houses, but their search proved futile.
The victim’s father alleged that a youth identified as Pradip Khada of village Salio under Erasama police station in Jagatsinghpur district was involved in his daughter’s abduction.
He stated that the accused might have lured his daughter on the pretext of marrying her and forcefully took her in a boat by crossing the river Mahanadi.
“Police have started an investigation into the matter,” said the IIC of Jamboo marine police station, Maheswar Sethi.
Both the girls had risked their lives to save 12 persons including five children from drowning in the river and brought them to safety from the river Mahanadi when their boat capsized on 2nd January last year near the village of both the girls.
All the victims were returning from the Hukitola island after attending a feast.
The girls received the bravery awards for saving the persons from the crocodile-infested river.
