Bhubaneswar, May 23 (LocalWire): The latest trends show the Biju Janata Dal bastion has been breached by the BJP but could not hold sway on the state Assembly.
It is almost finalized that BJD is heading towards its fifth term in the state with Naveen Patnaik at the helm.
BJD is leading in 113 seats while the saffron party is a far second with 23 seats.
Congress has only just opened its account with 9 seats. In the Lok Sabha constituencies BJD is leading 13 while BJP has bagged 8.
In 2009, when the BJP and BJD fought separately for the first time after Naveen Patnaik called off their decade-long alliance, the BJP managed to win only six Assembly seats.
In 2014, the BJD had won 117 Assembly seats and 20 Lok Sabha seats, while the BJP had won 10 Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat.
Congress had won 16 Assembly seats and had drawn a blank in Parliamentary constituencies.
