Bhubaneswar, November 8 (LocalWire) Around 40 volunteers of Navodaya Alumni Association of Odisha (NAAO) on Friday distributed jute bags at two city parks in an effort to promote cleanness.
They requested visitors and morning walkers to collect and deposit plastic bags and bottles into the garbage bin and get jute bags for free.
The former students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya launched this unique cleanness drives at Buddha Jayanti Park in Niladri Vihar and Indira Gandhi Park in Ashok Nagar during wee hours.
“We provided one jute bag in exchange for 10 units of poly bags or plastic bottles,” one of the volunteers told LocalWire.
“The response was spontaneous. The drive elicited public appreciation” he said.
“I feel that the ban on plastic, effective management of waste can make the city smarter and lead us to a healthier and greener life,” a morning walker said.
All should make an effort to make Bhubaneswar a clean, pollution-free liveable city.
Every individual ought to keep the surroundings of his house clean. Then the city will become nice, said a volunteer.
A large number of people continue to use non-biodegradable plastic despite the ban the state government imposed in all urban area on October 2 this year.
