Bhubaneswar,November 4 (LocalWireThe Left Wing Extremism (LWE) situation in the State has remained under control with combative initiative by State police and central armed security forces, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha, Bijoy Sharma, said on Monday.
Reviewing the naxal scenario in Malkangiri, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Koraput districts, Sharma said “the anti-naxal forces need to ensure that the security atmosphere is strengthened so that the developmental activities can take place smoothly in these Maoist affected region”.
The need of the hour is to restore normalcy in these districts. It’s the duty of police and security forces to instill sense of security in the minds of people, he said.
Lauding the combined efforts of the forces in improving the security of the region, he asked them to consolidate the progress made and make further improvement in combating LWE menace.
While 16 battalions of central para military forces are deployed in the Maoist-hit areas, the state’s elite Special Operations Group (SOG) teams have also been fighting against the Maoists in different districts, the DGP Sharma added.
