Berhampur, February 25 (Localwire): With an eye on upcoming polls, BJD lawmakers appear to be in a foundation stone laying spree in their respective constituencies.
Food and Consumer Welfare Minister S.N. Patro on Monday inaugurated a 100-bed hostel for the Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya at Kusumi and a drinking water supply project at Ambagada.
He also distributed 1,500 bicycles to construction workers at Kukudakhandi.
All the projects are in his Digapahandi constituency.
Similarly, former minister Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy laid foundation stones for some 17 projects in his constituency. Key projects include a market complex at Golanthara, a meeting hall for SHGs and community and anganwardi centers. He also laid the foundation stone for Karapalli-Markandi road.
Technical Education Minister Usha Devi laid the foundation stone for a new building of Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Kelua in her Chikiti constituency two days ago.
Polsara MLA Srikant Sahu inaugurated a community center at Totasahi on Monday. And distributed sports gears to volunteers of the Biju Yuba Bahini.
The opposition has criticized the BJD leaders for offering sops to people ahead of the elections.
BJP’s Ganjam district president Kanhu Charan Pati claimed that some BJD leaders had laid foundation stones multiple times for some projects with an eye on elections.
Also, funds for the projects were not released after the foundation laying ceremony, alleged Congress district committee president Deepak Patnaik.
