Bhubaneswar, Dec 2 (LocalWire): The enforcement agencies have so far booked 59 traffic offenders through the newly-introduced Traffic Violation Detection System (TVDS) introduced on Sunday, by capturing footage in Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed at strategic traffic points in the capital city.
From the CCTV footage, registration numbers of vehicles were spotted.
Fine was imposed against the vehicle owners in absentia and challans carrying details of fine amounts and violation clause of MV Act were sent to their addresses.
‘The entire TVDS is being monitored by Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) and challans are being issued on the basis of information provided by BSCL control room. TVDS is operational at Rupaly traffic junction in the city.
Shortly the improvised system of detecting traffic violators will be installed at seven more traffic chowks.
Later it will be further expanded by installing 24 more TVDS across the city,’ the commissionerate police officials said.
Offences like jumping red light, touching zebra crossing, over-speeding are being captured in CCTVs with the registration number of the vehicle thus easing the burden of traffic and enforcement agencies, they further said.
The ‘booked’ offenders will have to pay the penalty in cash at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) counters within a specified deadline.
