Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (LocalWire) : The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has now asked the government to conduct a broader examination of compliance of industries towards environmental laws.
This comes after a petition was filed against some government and private industries and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for not complying with environmental laws.
The petition had said that several industries which were setup by cutting trees failed to build green belts around their industries, many of whom were polluting in nature.
The NHAI was also accused of not doing compensatory afforestration against their felling of trees for their highway expansion works.
It is said that more than 3.6 lakh trees were cut to pave way for the industries in the district.
The NGT in its order has asked the Joint Committee formed after it’s earlier order to ensure broader scrutiny of the entire district for the violation of rules and inform the tribunal accordingly.
