Bhubaneswar, Dec 20 (LocalWire): The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday slapped Rs 4 crore penalty on Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) for its negligence that led to the death of seven elephants in Dhenkanal district in October.
Earlier, the green body had imposed Rs 1 crore fine in the incident.
The NGT asked the CESU to deposit the penalty amount with state forest department.
The forest department has been asked to prepare an action plan for proper implementation of elephant conservation projects in the state using the money.
The green body also directed the forest department to inform the Union ministry of environment and forests about the execution of the action plans regularly at an interval of three months.
