Bhubaneswar, April 28 (LocalWire): The National Human Rights Commission, New Delhi, taking cognizance of the case filed by Sangita Swain, secretary, Human Rights Watch, has asked the Chief Secretary to pay Rs 3 lakhs each to the kin of the four people who died due to electrocution.
Damodar Bariha and Panchanana Bariha died due to electrocution after an unrepaired electric wire fell on them in 2017. The sanctional officer, Malchhamunda Grid, handed over the compensation amount of Rs six lakhs on behalf of the department of energy, Govt. of Odisha, to the kin of the deceased.
Laxmi Bariha received the amount on Wednesday in presence of the Sarpanch Melcchamunda, Sunita Bariha and regional reporter of Human Rights Watch, Prakash Chandra Bariha.
Arun Gupta and Mina Sahu died due to electrocution after an unrepaired 11KV wire fell on their house.
The Commission considered the report and said since there is dereliction of duty on the part of officials of the state Energy department the state is liable for their deaths.
The Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha has been directed to pay a sum of Rs. three lakhs to each of the kin of deceased and submit proof of payment within six weeks.
