Kendrapara, December 14 (LocalWire): National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought Action Taken Report (ATR) from the State government over the alleged inaction and slipshod handling of a minor molestation case in Kendrapara district.
Taking cognizance of a petition by rights activist Pratap Mohanty, the rights panel asked the Kendrapra district police and schools and mass education department to file ATR and posted the matter for further hearing on January 2.
A minor 7th standard student was allegedly molested by a teacher of a government-run school in Mahakalpada tehsil on September 14.
Still local police is sitting over the matter and have not registered a case in this connection, petition moved by Mohanty alleged.
The accused school teacher had been placed under suspension after in inquiry by Block Education Officer. However the concerned authorities revealed the identity of the victim in the inquiry report, which infringed the apex court direction on sexual harassment and rape cases.
The petition while the award of monetary compensation to the victim girl also sought for penal action against the local police and mass education department authorities for inept handling of minor’s abuse case.
