Bhubaneswar, 15July (LocalWire): Responding to a petition alleging denial of treatment to a HIV positive pregnant woman in a government-run hospital, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the state to furnish an Action Taken Report within eight weeks.
The petition was moved by the secretary of Angul-based Human Rights Watch, Sangita Swain.
A tribal woman was allegedly denied medical facility in Bhadrak district headquarters hospital by the authorities on the ground that she was an HIV-AIDS carrier.
The hospital staff at obstetrics and gynaecology ward had refused to admit her as they apprehended that she may pass on the virus to them.
The petition moved on 14 March had sought to initiate penal action against the hospital authorities and sought Rs 5 lakh compensation for the victim.
