Bhubaneswar, May 27 (LocalWire): The Firkinali and Pitagadia villages near the state capital are yet to get their electricity back after the powerful cyclone Fani on May 3 destroyed the supply network.
Some 500 people live in these two villages in Chandaka forest division. After darkness, the villages become no-go zone as people are afraid to venture out.
After the storm ravaged their homes, an elephant herd had raided the villages, destroying several houses in the areas. Today, the residents have to travel 20 km only to recharge their mobile phones.
The disruption in power supply has also disturbed the studies of school children.
Sanjay, a local lad, said that the shopkeepers in the nearest town charge Rs 10 to recharge their phones.
Meanwhile, the electricity department has set up a forward base near the Patana primary school ground for restoring electricity in the areas.
