Berhampur, July 5 (LocalWire): Milk will be available to consumers through automatic teller machines (ATM) by using smart cards. Greater Ganjam Gajapati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited, a cooperative organisation of milk suppliers started this initiative from Thursday.
Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange inaugurated the Rs 50-lakh milk ATM in the premises of the union office with the support of National Dairy Development
Board (NDDB), TSRDS and OMFED. Berhampur MLA Bikram Panda and officials of Tata Steel Rural Development Society attended the inaugural function of the milk ATM.
The main aim of selling milk though the ATM was to provide more money to the
farmers and also to make profitfor the union. ‘We have decided to provide
75 % profit of it to the farmers-the members of the union as bonus”
said general manager, milk producers union Dillip Kumar Patnaik.
He added that NDDB provided Rs 40.85 lakh loan to process the raw milk and to supply it through the ATM while TSRDS constructed the ATM room.
‘We will provide pure processed milk enriched with vitamin A and D to the consumers though the ATM at a cost of Rs 40 per litre,’ he said. O
can procure minimum 250 ml and maximum 5 litres of milk from the ATM by inserting the required amount in the machine,’ Patnaik said. Milk can also be bought by using the smart card provided by the union.
The smart card can be bought by paying Rs 1000 in advance, which can be used for a month and one litre per day, he added.
Initially, the ATM will function from 5am to 9 pm each day, he added.
Theunionthe sale to be around 2000 litre to 3000 litres of milk per day through the ATM.
The union will procure an average of 18,000 litres milk from the farmers, which will be supplied to the processing plant of OMFED located at Ankushapur.
Wehave installed a processing plant of 500 litres per hour in our office premises,’ he added.
Patnaik said they planned to install four more ATMs in different places in the city soon.
‘We will discuss with Berhampur Municipal Corporation authorities for the site,’ he added.
Kulange also asked the union to install such ATM at MKCG Medical College and Hospital here.
