Berhampur, April 9 (Localwire): Wives of several party candidates have hit the campaign trail in Ganjam district as the make or break elections for many of them reach a feverish pitch.
Sujata Panigrahy, wife of BJD candidate from Gopalpur seat Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, is campaigning for her husband, who’s a party president of Ganjam district and former state minister.
Besides his own campaigning, he’s also been entrusted to look after other assembly segments in the district. “As he is very busy these days, I have come to help him,” said Sujata, a post-graduate student.
Her husband is seeking a re-election for a third time from the seat.
Asha Kumari Dash, wife of independent candidate from Berhampur Siba Shankara Dash, is campaigning for her husband in his absent. Dash, an ex- BeMC mayor, is lodged in a Berhampur jail.
Dash has decided to go solo after BJP denied him a ticket.
“As my husband is in jail, I am campaigning for him in the election,” said Asha. She’s visiting door-to-door for canvassing. “I am banking on my husband’s development work for a poll victory,” she said.
Sanghamitra Swain, wife of Sorada BJD candidate Purna Chandra Swain, has also hit the campaign trail. He husband is a former chairperson of NAC, Sorada.
“When he is busy in electioneering in other parts of the constituency, I along with other women workers are campaigning for him,” she said.
Swain is seeking a reelection for third time from the seat.
The wife of Chikiti BJP candidate Manoranjan Dyanasamantara is also campaigning for her husband. “I am a helping hand to my husband in the election,” said his wife Meena, a former party samiti member.
He had successfully contested the last election in a Congress ticket. This time, though, he is fighting in a saffron party ticket.
