Bhubaneswar, March 8 (LocalWire): The Indian Railways will soon start issuing tickets in Odia language besides English and Hindi for convenience of its passengers, it said on Friday.
In addition to tickets, a database of over 8,000 station names in Odia script is being prepared, and 317 station names will be written in the local language in first phase, the railways said.
The initiative is supported by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), Kolkata.
Tickets in Odia, though, will be offered only for unreserved seats initially that are bought from counters.
The railways hope to start the ticket initiative from April 1 on the occasion of Odisha Diwas.
People who can’t read English or Hindi will be benefitted from this passenger-friendly initiative, it said.
