Surat, Dec 18 (LocalWire): Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said Odias have carved a distinct identity for themselves everywhere through their skills.
“The Odia society is today marching ahead with confidence,” he said Inaugurating the ‘Odia Mahotsav’ here on Monday.
Addressing the crowd Patnaik announced Rs 10 crore to set up a cultural centre for Odias in Surat and informed that he had written to his Gujarat counterpart for allocation of land for the same.
Besides, he said the state government is considering to open a plus II college there and to provide free books to Odia schools adding to take initiative for Odia students there to appear matriculation examination.
The state government has requested the Centre to ply two new trains between Berhampur and Surat and flight service from Bhubaneswar, Patnaik informed the gathering.
On the occasion he extended the state sponsored Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) to them.
