Bhubaneswar, August 17 (LocalWire) The state government has approved a fund of Rs 180 crore to develop peripheral wetland areas of water bodies Chilika and Ansupa lake along with Bhitarkanika, state forest and environment minister Bikram Keshari Arukh said Saturday.
A sum of Rs 158 crore has been approved for Chilika while Rs 21.23 crore was approved for development of Ansupa lake, the largest sweet water lake of the state.
The funds will augment livelihood of nearly 1 lakh fishermen of 151 villages surrounding Chilika, the minister said.
The decision was taken in the meeting conducted by Odisha Wetland Development Authority. In the meeting, decision was also taken to develop Bhitarakanika wetland area as well, though details of plan or fund has not been communicated.
The Odisha Wetland Development Authority was established in 2015 to manage a total of 17 key wetlands in the state.
