Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (LocalWire): The Odisha Assembly today debated on the issue of recently passed controversial legislations on farmers in the Parliament.
The discussion was undertaken during an Adjournment Motion in the House.
After the Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro allowed the Motion and State Agriculture Minister Arun Sahoo started making his statement, the BJP members started objecting to the admission of the Motion.
Later the saffron party staged a walkout citing denial of timely information on the Motion to the party.
The Congress party as well as the BJD opposed the new laws and criticised the move.
Congress party leader Naraingha Mishra accused the Union government of misleading the Parliament and even outside the House on the farmers issue. He also said that the Centre’ promise of hiking MSP 2.5 times was not fulfilled.
BJD MLA Pratap Keshari Deb said that the laws may benefit the farmers in initial days but later it could prove against the interests of the farmers.
