Berhampur, October 25 (LocalWire): Seven panchayat bodies in the state, including three in Ganjam district, have bagged the National Panchayat Awards 2019 for their outstanding performances during the fiscal year 2017-18.
The awards were conferred by the Union Minister of Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar at a function held at New Delhi on Wednesday.
While Hinjili Panchayat Samiti and Sheragada panchayat have bagged the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP), Baragon panchayat in Aska block in Ganjam district was conferred the Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Purashkar 2019 for outstanding performance, Ganjam District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) project director Sidharth Shankar Swain informed.
Hinjili block and Sheragada panchayat comes under the chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s Hinjili assembly constituency.
The other four panchayat bodies which got the prestigious award include Sambalpur Zilla Parishad (ZP), Dhenkanal Sadara Panchayat Samiti, Saida and Bhagabatapur panchayats in Angul and Kendrapara districts respectively under DDUPSP category.
The award includes cash component of Rs 50 lakh for each ZP, Rs 25 lakh for panchayat samiti and Rs 5 lakh for each panchayat, sources said.
This is the third national award for the Hinjili panchayat samiti, which had received similar awards for the appraisal year 2014-15 and 2015-16.
According to block development officer Prasan Patra, a two-member team from the central government had visited the block in February and inspected different projects undertaken by the local administration, including the functioning of Anganwadi centers, sanitation, maintenance of ponds and target achievement of different schemes.
