Paradip, Jan 4 (LocalWire) Administration on Friday disbursed ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each of nine victims, who lost their lives in a boat tragedy at Sananipania near Barkolikhala in Batighar panchyat of Kendrapada district.
The ex-gratia was handed over in presence of women and child welfare minister Prafulla Samal and local MP Kulamani Samal.
As many as nine people, including two women and seven children, were killed when a mini fishing boat carrying 55 picinickers capsized in the river on Wednesday evening.
A three-year-old girl is still missing.
The state government had announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
On Friday, the administration conducted a meeting in the village where women and child welfare minister Prafulla Samal and local MP Kulamani Samal and others offered condolences to the members of the families of the deceased.
Local people demanded to withdraw criminal cases against the two boatmen Nirvya Swain and Tutu Sahoo from Jumboo Marine police.
They were detained by Jumboo Marine police for plying unlicensed boat and ferrying picnickers.
They were released unconditionally on Thursday, following a mass stir.
Collector Yamini Sarangi and ADM Paradip Kanhu Charan Dhir were present on this occasion.
They visited the kins of the victims and handed over the cheques to them.
Kujang Tahsildar Ramesh Chandra Panda said: “The administration has disbursed an ex-gratia of total Rs 36 lakh among the families of nine deceased. Since a girl is still missing, her ex-gratia has yet not been.”
“Search operation is underway to trace her,” he said.
