Bhubaneswar, December 28 (Localwire): Odisha today registered overwhelming innings victory over Uttarakhand in its Elite Group C Ranji Trophy match at Cuttack, adding to the grand sporting performance of the state in 2019.
Today’s emphatic victory has put Odisha on the top of the elite group C of Ranji trophy championship.
On the sports front, 2019 has proved to be an eventful year for Odisha.
Ace sprinter Dutee Chand made the state proud by winning a series of trophies in national and international track and field meets.
Chand, a native of Gopalpur village in Jajpur district, became the first Indian to win a gold medal in women’s 100-meter sprint at the 30th Summer University Games in Naples, Italy this year.
She also won medals in the world championship at Doha in Qatar and emerged victorious in the national events winning gold medals this year.
Odisha was also under the spotlight this year for hosting several high-profile events, including the Hockey Olympic Qualifiers and the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship, while it bagged the coveted hosting rights for the prestigious Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023.
The year also saw Barabati stadium in Cuttack successfully host the India-West Indies day and night one-day international cricket match on 22 December that was won by the men in blue to seal the game with an emphatic 2-1 win.
