Bhubaneswar, Jan 4 (LocalWire) Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik has requested Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari to declare important roads in Mayurbhanj district as National Highways.
“It is requested to consider declaration of the following important roads passing through Mayurbhanj district as National Highways,” Patnaik said in his letter to Gadkari, including the 135-km Bhadrak-Anandpur-Thakurmunda-Karanjia-Singada, the 110-km Shergarh-Nilgiri-Kaptipada-Baripada-W.B. Border, the 54-km Rairangpur-Bisoi-Bangiriposi-Kalabadia and the 70-km Jashipur-Champua in the list.
Patnaik also asked Gadkari to make sure all National Highways in Odisha are timely maintained, improved and widened.
“I would like to bring to your notice that the state is suffering a lot due to lackoftimelymaintenance/improvement/widening of the existing National Highways (NHs) which are important communication links in the state,” said Patnaik.
He mentioned that the Jharpokharia-Keonjhar-Sambalpur NH-49 passing through Mayurbhanj is “not in a traffic-worthy condition”.
“Many public complaints have been received in this regard,” he said.
Patnaik said though the Hatgamahria-Benisagar up to junction with NH-49 near Singada passing through Mayurbhanj was declared a National Highway way back on Feb 17, 2016, no improvement work has yet been started.
