Berhampur, Jan 31 (LocalWire) A special training programme for senior police officers of southern Odisha districts was held here on Thursday for conducting of free, fair and incident-free state Assembly and Lok Sabha polls to be held later this year.
Odisha Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) Sachin Ramchand Jadav inaugurated the day-long training programme.
During the training programme, responsibility of police officers during the election period, strictly following the model code of conduct, identification of critical polling stations, vulnerability mapping of the booths, monitoring of the election expenditure of the candidates and maintaining of law and order were discussed, said Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Thakur.
Two resources persons, who have already been trained by the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), JB Mishra and Rabi Das, imparted training to the police officers.
Senior police officers of Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Boudh, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkanagiri and Nabarangapur, including SPs, additional SPs, IG of Police (law and order) and DIG (southern range) Asish Kumar Singh attended the training programme.
The training programme to the police officers assumed significance as more districts of southern Odisha are getting infested by Maoists, who might try to disrupt the election process in the areas.
Earlier on Wednesday, similar training programmes were held at Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur, sources said.
