Bhubaneswar, April 17 (Local Wire): Odisha government has now drafted a legislation to recognize sharecroppers in the state. The law is likely to help the group in availing government services and supports like other farmers.
The draft law has been given the name-Odisha Agricultural Land Leasing Act.
According to agriculture department officials the draft is in initial stage and opinions from all stakeholders have been sought onto this.
“After the lockdown period is over we will finalize the draft bill and put forth in the Assembly after taking suggestions from stakeholders on the draft legislation,” Saurabh Garg, State Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Secretary said.
The much awaited bill is likely to empower the sharecroppers to get loans from financial institutions, procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) besides other facilities like access to subsidies, insurance, disaster relief and others.
