Bhubaneswar, August 19 (LocalWire): Odisha’s first post office to be managed by an all-women team began its operations in the Sambalpur district headquarter town on Monday.
The Gole Bazar sub-post office in the town is the first postal unit in the state that will be fully managed by the team of woman post office employees.
“It’s a women’s empowerment initiative on part of the Department of Post.
We are hopeful that the all-women post office will attract homemakers to the post office and enhance their saving habits through hassle-free operation,” Sambalpur division superintendent of post offices Banambar Sethy said while inaugurating the post office, today.
The sub-post office will have all the facilities and network that general post offices have.
The sole difference lies in the fact that women employees will shoulder the responsibility of running it.
“The sub-post office will deal with mails, small saving schemes, Indian post-payment bank service, sale of postage stamps and ancillaries.
Besides, it will have Aadhar enrolment facility,” he said.
“It is a matter of pride for me as I have been posted to head the state’s first post office operated by an all-woman team.
I will take personal initiative to inculcate in women the saving culture to meet the tough financial phase of their families,” head of the new sub-post office Amarakhi Nandani Seth said.
