Bhubaneswar, November 28 (LocalWire) Odisha government on Thursday extended the deadline for enforcing new traffic norms for another three months to allow riders to prepare all the required documents, officials said.
Earlier on September 9, it had relaxed the norms till December 1 after the levy of hefty penalties under the act had triggered statewide resentment.
As complaints of public inconvenience due to inadequate number of facilitation centres were received, a decision to relax the norms has been taken, state’s transport minister Padmanabha Behera told the Assembly.
The authorities, however, will continue to maintain zero-tolerance towards drunk and over-speeding by vehicle riders, he added.
Those beside the traffic violators, the helmet-less driving and another form of offenders will be taken to task under the act, he said.
