Bhubaneswar, June 1 (Local Wire): Odisha government has now started their drive to map the skills of several returning migrants to make a database of the skilled labourers the state has.
The mapping has been planned to ensure they returning migrants who lost their wages and look at uncertain futures could be assimilated in the existing industries in the state.
“When the migrants come to the quarantine centres our technical teams and SHG workers are trying to collect data from them on their skills,” Hemant Sharma, Principal Secretary, Industries Department said.
According to the government’s own admission,the state has seen the return of more than 3.5 lakh workers while lakhs of other migrants from the state are also likely to return to the state soon.
The government has now planned to revive the halted MSME and other sectors with the skilled manpower of Odisha which often migrate to other states for jobs.
Such experiments have also been done by other states like Uttar Pradesh and others in the country.
