Bhubaneswar, Mar 14 (Local Wire): Human Rights activist from the state Biswapriya Kanungo has now demanded that the Odisha High Court should take suo moto cognizance of the police excesses done in the state during the lockdown.
Kanungo cited a recent such cognizance taken by the Kerala High Court and demanded the HC to monitor the excess.
He also demanded a centralised grievance redressal centre where such excesses could be reported.
“There should be also a control room in the state level for redressal of complains against police excess.
Since the offence under The Epidemic Act is bailable, the arrested must be released on bail from police station itself,” he told LocalWire.
He also demanded that cycles should not be seized from the people while he claimed that even in Emergency the Right to Life and Personal Liberty were not compromised and that should not be done during the lockdown period.
He however appealed to the people to follow the government orders and practice social distancing besides ensuring personal hygiene.
