Jagatsinghpur, Dec 01 (LocalWire) A team of Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police visited Tentoi village under Naugaon police station of Jagatsinghpur district on Saturday to probe the death of a dalit woman, who had committed suicide when her obscene photos were made viral in social media by a youth.
The team comprising DSP Kuber Bariha and Inspector Mopika Rani Jena interacted with family members and relatives of the 23-year-old victim, who took to the extreme step on November 7 after the youth identified as Deepak Beura pasted her nude photographs on the wall of her house.
The victim’s mother said that Beura was torturing and humiliating her daughter for last three years.
He had forcibly entered into her house when they were not present, tied her hands and legs, disrobed her and clicked her photographs.
After being narrated about the whole incident, she had lodged an FIR with the local police but no action was taken against Behura, the victim’s mother said.
The team interacted with local police officials to ascertain as to whether the woman committed suicide due to police inaction and negligence and also inquired about registration of case under Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act on 11 November, four days after the victim’s mother lodged FIR. Superintendent of police Prakash R, assistant superintendent of police Bishnu Charan Mishra and other police officials were present during interaction.
On Thursday, a team of National Commission for Scheduled Caste led by its member Yogendra Paswan had visited the village and interacted with family members of the victim dalit woman. They observed that she had taken to the extreme step due to alleged negligence of police.
The victim’s mother had also sought intervention of the DGP in the matter and urged stringent action against errant police officials.
Meanwhile, different organisation including Utkal Dalit Adibasi Mahasangh, Repulican Party of India, Dalit Bikash Parishad, National Confederation of Dalit Adibasi Mahasangh have threatened “Jagatsinghpur Bandh” unless stringent action is taken against the errant police persons within seven days.
