Bhubaneswar, September 24 (LocalWire): The All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) report for 2019 has ranked Odisha at the bottom of the list of states attracting foreign students to its higher educational institutions.
According to the survey conducted by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, only 512 foreign students enrolled in the colleges and universities of the state during the year.
The report ranks Karnataka on the top with 10,023 foreign students, followed by Maharashtra at 5,003, Punjab at 4,533, Uttar Pradesh (UP) at 4,514, and Tamil Nadu at 4101.
The next five in the list include Haryana (2,872), Delhi (2,141), Gujarat (2,068), Telangana (2020), and Andhra Pradesh (1,982) according to the AISHE report.
While 54 students from foreign countries joined institutions in Odisha for Ph. D courses, Uttar Pradesh had the highest enrolment in Ph. D with 328 students followed by 202 in Karnataka.
No foreign student enrolled in M Phil course in the state while UP accounted for the highest number of 44 students.
In post-graduation courses, 69 foreign students enrolled in Odisha while Karnataka got the highest number of registration in PG stream with 1,396 foreign students, followed by 1,313 enrollments in UP.
Te report further indicates that over 393 students of foreign origin are pursuing undergraduate courses in Odisha with the highest 8,126 students in Karnataka, followed by 3,848 students in Punjab, and 3,763 students in Maharashtra.
