Bhubaneswar, September 21 (LocalWire) The scenic and picturesque beach at the Puri pilgrim town has turned into a sea of humanity with the launch of a massive beach clean-up drive, which the State government claims as the biggest of its kind in the World.
The initiative is being carried out by the authorities under ‘Mo beach’ programme. The drive that is continuing now has elicited an overwhelming public response, district collector, Balwant Singh told LocalWire.
Besides the beach spread across the urban local body jurisdiction of the city, the drive is being simultaneously conducted in beaches in Konarak, Astaranga, Brahmagiri, Gop and Krushnaprasad.
The massive drive has been launched with joint coordination with the Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project (ICZMP) and State Pollution Control Board.
The coastal cleanup drive of this nature is aimed at infusing public opinion on prevention of pollution in seaside pockets. Piling up of garbage in sea beaches vitiates the marine environment and ecosystem, Singh said.
