Jagatsinghpur, Nov 23 (LocalWire) Odisha now boasts of a handloom village ‘ ‘Bayan Gram’, which has been formed with families of weaver communities at Jaipur village under Chapada panchyat of Raghunathpur block in Jagatsinghpur district.
The project, put together with the assistance of Paradip Port Trust and Handlooms,Textiles & Handicrafts Department, is expected to be a major tourism attraction in the district.
Inaugurating ‘Bayan Gram’ on Thursday, Tirtol legislator Rajshree Mallick said: “Rural vistas and indigenous crafts of the state attract tourists from abroad.”
Collector Yamini Sarangi informed nearly 442 handloom weavers of 90 households in the area will be benefited from the project.
The model handloom village tourism project is aimed at the overall development of the weavers` community, which is famous for its unique weaving style.
The district administration has set up a state-of-the-art common facility centre, a demonstration centre, sales outlet, and refreshment room with availability of traditional Odia food, basic infrastructure such as connectivity, toilets and hotels in the village to ensure good facilities for tourists.
She said the main products of the cluster are tasar and cotton sarees, lungis, bed sheet, shawl, dress materials, napkins, stoles and dupattas.
Recently designers have been engaged for catering to the needs of a classical mixture of traditional and modern designs. These products have been sold at different centers of ‘Boyanika’ counter.
This village is situated on the road site of Cuttack- Paradip state highway.
