Bhubaneswar, September 14(LocalWire): The state government has decided to provide monthly pension to economically poor divorcee women under its social security monthly pension scheme.
The women who are legally separated from their spouses with a maximum Rs 40,000 annual income will be entitled to the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) of the state government.
“The prospective beneficiaries will have to furnish documents relating to their divorce status for monthly pension coverage.
Details of the scheme will be announced shortly,” the minister for Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disability Ashok Panda said.
Overall, the state government provides financial assistance to 48 lakh beneficiaries under the MBPY, which was launched in 2008.
Those being covered under it receive Rs 300 a month after attaining 60 years up to 79 years while the octogenarians are disbursed Rs 500 per month.
Those in Below the Poverty Line (BPL) category with an annual income of Rs 24,000 are entitled to receive a monthly pension under the programme.
As a social security initiative, the MBPY is also being extended to widows, leprosy and AIDS patients, sources said.
