Bhubaneswar, April 3 (LocalWire): More and more politicians in Odisha are using social media platforms for canvassing this time, said an observer.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, APPs etc. were being widely used to woo voters, especially the millennials.
“We first saw its extensive use in 2014 general elections by BJP. The party used social media as a key campaign tool. Now, other parties are catching up, as evident in 2019,” said the observer.
Earlier, they used traditional media like TV, radio and print for campaigning. Today, the easy access to fast internet has changed the game. Parties now take help of volunteers trained in digital platforms.
Apart from bigger parties like BJD, BJP and Congress, regional parties like Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiv Sena and CPI-M are also leaving no stone unturned, he said.
“Politicians have realized that they can share info on social media platforms in real-time, and it’s a two-way communication which was not possible earlier,” the observer said.
