Bhubaneswar, July 29(LocalWire): The prolonged dispute between Odisha and West Bengal over the spongy, syrupy dessert, Rasagola has finally been put to rest after the Registrar for Geographical Indications (GI) tagged it as ‘Odisha Rasagola’ on Monday.
As per reports, the certificate has been granted to this sweet as ‘Odisha Rasagola’ by Chennai office of Registrar for GI.
In November 2017, the West Bengal had received the GI tag for ‘Banglar Rasogolla’,. Later, the Government of Odisha had applied for rectification in recognition of the sweet as ‘Jagannath Rasogolla.’
The Niladri Bije ritual of Rath Yatra, in which Lord Jagannath offers rasagolla to Devi Laxmi to pacify her anger, has been celebrated by social media users as ‘Rasagola Divas’.
