Bhubaneswar, April 7 (Local Wire): Odisha witnessed its maiden COVID 19 related death on Tuesday as a 72-year-old person succumbed to the viral infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.
The septuagenarian was admitted to the hospital on April 4 with fever and respiratory issues. His samples tested positive on April 6.
The hospital said that the health condition of the person deteriorated leading to his death on April 7 morning.
A statement from AIIMS said, “His sample, taken on April 6 was found to be positive for COVID 19 infection by AIIMS Bhubaneswar which was subsequently sent to RMRC for re-confirmation and it was re-confirmed on April 7,”
It also added, “As the patient was treated as a COVID 19 suspect from the very beginning, all hospital infection control and safety protocols were followed,” a statement from AIIMS said.
