Berhampur, September 26 (Local Wire) – An apex state traders’ body will join the proposed national strike on September 28 to protest the Flipkart-Walmart deal and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail trade, its chief said on Wednesday.
Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the apex national traders’ body, has given the one day Bharat Bandh call on Friday.
In Odisha, around 15 lakh traders of different categories would join in the nation-wide bandh for protection of their rights and business, said Rabindra Nath, working president of Odisha Byabasai Mahasang.
Terming Walmart-Flipkart deal was a violation of the government’s FDI policy, he said the deal would adversely affect the small businesses in the country, whereas the FDI in retail would also be much disastrous for the trading community.
The retail traders are feeling neglected and they are concerned over the future of their business, he said.
Other demands of the traders include to simplify the GST and to make two tax slabs in GST, no financial penalty should exceed Rs 10,000, provision for accidental insurance for every GST registered traders similar to already applicable in Uttar Pradesh.
