Bhubaneswar, August 20 (LocalWire) Odisha government has announced commencement of ‘One Nation One Ration card’ scheme in line with the Union Government’s decision to implement the programme nationwide by June 2020.
The scheme provides the facility of picking up ration from any part of the country by associating Adhaar number with food security number or ration card.
“As the central government has started the scheme, we will implement it in the state,” said Ranendra Pratap Swain, minister for food supplies with the state government.
In the first phase, the programme will begin from Bhubaneswar from September 1 onwards and later, it will be implemented across the state, he added.
Odisha is one of those states which has launched its own food security scheme, in addition to the Centre’s National Food Security Mission.
The state introduced its own scheme as its request to include more beneficiaries was not entertained by the state.
There is no clarity, however, if the beneficiaries under the state food security can avail the benefit or not.
The Centre has directed all states who have not yet participated in the programme to do so before June 2020. Odisha is among the 11 states that are yet to take part in implementing the programe including states such as Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Madhya Pradesh.
Already 10 states —Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharasthra, Rajasthan, Telangana and Tripura — are providing portability of Public Distribution System (PDS) entitlements.
