Kendrapara ,Aug 31(LocalWire): Two former women footballers from Kendrapara district who represented Odisha in the national games are now reported to be struggling for their survival.
Sushree Sangita Mallick and Sujata Mallick, both former players are residents of Demal village under Aul Block of the district.
Both of them are now living in kutcha houses within the boundaries of their mud wall and thatched house.
Sujata is working in a brick kiln as a daily wage earner while Sushree is trying to manage his expenses by working as a maid.
Sushree repesented Odisha senior women football team from 2005 to 2012.
Odisha became Runners Up in 2010 in Manipur when she represented Odisha.
“I married five years back. But my husband deserted me two years back.
Now I am residing in my village and working as a maid. I read up to high school . I need a job “, she said.
Sujata also represented Odisha from 2005 to 2015 in Sub- Junior and junior levels .
“My father is suffering from paralysis for which to maintain our four members of family I am working in the brick kiln,” she said.
She also added, “Our rickety thatched house in the village is on the verge of collapse. But due to paucity of funds the house is yet to be repaired, the noted stopper said.
“Odisha has had a history of forgetting its sports heroes .
So the struggle of promising women footballers is not surprising to anyone.
