Balasore, October 11 (LocalWire): One person has been arrested in connection with the blast in Remuna area on 2 October.
The accused Sridhar Mohanty, a native of Srijang village and a marble mason, has been produced in the local court.
He was residing at Achyutapur in Remuna as a tenant in the house of one Kalicharan Mohapatra and had stocked explosives and other materials meant for preparing fire-crackers and the materials blew off accidentally.
According to Industrial police station, inspector-in-charge Jayant Behera Mohanty use to make fire-crackers illegally at his rented house and supplied it in the local market.
Mohanty was staying on the second floor and the explosion caused massive damage to the building, while the loud noise shocked the neighbours.
“The accused was absconding ever since the blast occurred and he was nabbed following raids by a special team,” Behera stated.
While the blast led to a panic in the area, no injury or casualty was reported.
The police investigated the blast site along with a team of scientific experts and found stains and smell of cracker making powder.
The police initially interrogated the owner of the house but after ascertaining that the tenant Mohanty was involved in illegal manufacturing and trading of fire-crackers he was nabbed.
