Kendrapara, September 28 (LocalWire): In a wee hour shoot out, the police injured an arrested a local criminal Hrusikesh Mallick (28) at Garapur Chhack on the Kendrapara – Pattamundai state highway on Saturday.
Mallick (28), a resident of Juna village under Marasaghai police station in Kendrapara district, along with four others had committed robbery at the house of Nabaghan Parida of Juania village under Aul police station on Friday.
On getting the information the police had blocked the roads in the district to nab the criminals and when they tried to stop the criminals who were returning to Kendrapara in a car, they opened fire.
In a retaliation fire by the police, Mallick suffered gunshot injuries on both legs and was apprehended. The other four criminals, however, managed to flee from the spot.
The injured criminal was first admitted at the District Headquarter Hospital at Kendrapada and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further treatment.
The police have seized the car and recovered five sharp weapons, Kendrapara Sadar police station inspector-in-charge Pramod Mallick said, adding that they are further investigating the matter.
The criminals had entered the house by breaking the iron grill and committed the crime while injuring Paida, his wife Ratnarani and their daughter-in-law Gitanjali using a sharp weapon.
All the three injured persons were admitted to the government hospital at Aul for treatment.
