Berhampur, March 24 (LocalWire): Students of a government-run residential school in Gajapati district took ill after dinner on Saturday night and one died today morning due to lack of treatment. The school head master and the superintendent of the hostel have been suspended.
The 100-bed hostel houses 56 students attending Upper Primary School at S Maringi in Goshani block. After dinner on Saturday night, five children complained of headache, started vomiting and also had loose motion.
The deceased, 9-year-old Tuni Raita, had severe disarrhoea and vomiting but her condition was ignored by the head master Umakanta Choudhury and the superintendent of the hostel Anita Nayak who did not give her proper treatment and she passed away, said Gajapati collector Anupam Saha. The exact cause of the death would be known only after post-mortem, he said.
‘The other students are being treated at the district headquarter hospital, Paralakhemundi, and are stable,’ said district welfare officer, Gajapati, Santosh Kumar Rath.
‘We have asked the DWO to inquire into the incident. After getting the report, further action will be taken,’ said Saha.
