Jagatsinghpur, October 4 (LocalWire): The Jagatsinghpur district and session judge on Friday sentenced Subash Biswal alias Bika Gurudev of Pandara village to life imprisonment on charges of guru due to rivalry in 2014.
District and session judge Anand Charan Behera had convicted the accused Biswal based on statements and cross-examination of 18 witnesses.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Biswal who killed one saint Prabhudatta Das from Purohitpur village in Jagatsinghpur police limit.
Prabhudatta had set up an ashram on the bank of Hansua River under Tirtol police limit where Biswal worked as his disciple.
According to the cook Rupali Nayak, at 7 am on 6 May 2014 she had served cold drink to Prabhudatta.
However, when she went to the saint’s room again after 45 minutes to offer tea, she found that Biswal had killed Prabhudatta using a spade and his body was lying in a pool of blood.
The police had registered a case on the basis of the complaints from Prabhudatta’s follower Gurudev Bichitra Baral had lodged an FIR in Tirtol police station.
