Dhenkanal, November 19 (LocalWire): In the second incident during the month, a wild elephant killed a 55-year-old farmer in a forest-side village of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday night.
Earlier, on 5 November, a wild elephant had trampled a man to death in the district.
The incident occurred yesterday night in Gadapalasuni village under the Kamakhyanagar forest range of Dhenkanal forest division jurisdiction.
The victim Narayan Naik was guarding the cropland when the wild elephant came from nowhere and trampled him to death, forest officials said.
The village is close to elephants’ habitation corridor and the animals often stray into the village field in search of food, which leads to the frequent outbreak of human-elephant conflict.
An ex-gratia financial aid of Rs 4 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the bereaved family as per the rule prescribed for human death due to attack by protected animals, a forest official stated.
